I'm sorry, I am just not ready to part with the summer season. Due to the weather, I will have to come to my senses very soon. It's cold here in Mississippi and October has just begun. Seriously, that is so taboo here. I'd still be able to lay out at the pool now. In the meantime, I'll just pretend that there is not a chill outside and continue to rock my summer threads.

Fashion Steals in this post:

1.TOP: I usually don't buy clothing out of Charlotte Russe, I usually stick to accessories and shoes whenever my size is available, but I saw this cute cowl top in my favorite color and had to purchase it. It was like $5. SUPER STEAL!!!

2. SKIRT: During my trip to NYC this past May, I literally stopped by every Forever 21 I saw in Manhattan. I saw this skirt in one of the stores for $11 and quickly picked it up. I love the drape and color. I'm not a fan of any shade or tone of violet, but I needed to try something different. SUPER STEAL!!!

3. RING: You guys there is a little place in every town that is full of trendy accessories and beauty products that we pass by everyday: and it's our local hair store (the one's that sell extensions, wigs, and weave lol). I was passing by to purchase an eyebrow razor and saw some cute rings for a $1 each. I think I got like 6 different rings and a bracelet. SUPER STEAL!!!!

To summarize my trip to NYC this past May I will say I am presently saving my bucks in a box titled "Move to NYC"". I had so much fun and NYC is everything I expected it to be. It reminded me a lot of London, without the adorable British accents of course. Again I faced the challenge of being comfortable and stylish walking the streets of the big city. Once you're out for the day, you are out and those uncomfortable heels will totally destroy your feet and mood throughout the day. But thankfully, I learned from my past trip to London and packed my heels, lol. I love the fast pace, shopping, and the vast variety of food. I love to eat and spend money btw....just so you know. I fell in love with the Soho area, and I have it marked as a first priority for me to find my first apartment within the area when I move after college. Visiting several museums, stores and shops, and main attractions of the city added lots of excitement to my week and I admit I had an amazing time everywhere I went. I have officially joined the I heart NY club and am now awaiting my certificate of acceptance in the mail, lol.

This trip was a study tour with the fashion department of my school and I had to produce a project inspired from my trip to NYC after the trip. I designed a five outfit collection that I will post later this week and I can't wait to share it with you guys. Stay tuned...

Explanations and Changes...

Hi, to all my readers! I have missed each and everyone of you so much. I haven't been the same over the last two months without the interaction between my readers and my creative juices have not been flowing just the same ever since my brief abscence. But i'm back and I have some interesting news to share....

So what looks different about me....huh huh!

Why it's my hair of course!!! Yup yup....*does the bank head bounce, cat daddy, and raises the roof (not really lmao)!!!

You guys I have never, I mean NEVER done anything drastic to my hair even when it came to cutting my hair. I'm pretty lame and scared to mess it up, but lately I have just been craving for a drastic change. So what did I do....I woke up around 9am, went to CVS, then came home and dyed my hair. I didn't even think about it.

Do you guys like it?

Please say,"Yes, Amber we like it!" (lol....) Let me know what you think!

So, I have some explanations for the abandonment of my blog (*wipes tears off eyes). This being my final, last, senior year of college (THANK YOU LORD), I have been busy taking summer courses and what not. I truly apologize, but trust me it hurt me more than you can possible know to be separate from my blog. My blog is my place to vent all of the built up creativity I have stocked up inside of me. But on a good note, I did travel to NY in May and will be filling you guys in very soon on all the fun and trouble I got into. I also have some great DIY's and style files to post before the summer ends. Yippee....

Q&A w/ Pithsala...

Who is Pithsala? (bio, where you're from, etc;)

I'm basically a full time business student with a huge passion for clothes and shoes. I have been born and raised in India and still have my roots planted in this country. Most people know me as 'Imsu' as a short form of my name 'Imsurenla' but I also have an alias, 'Pithsala', given by my maternal grandmother, so most of my family members address me by this name. In a nut shell, my life revolves around music, academics, my family, my pet dog who I love so much [Angel], my friends, online shopping, fashion, and technology.

Being a consistent reader of your blog, it is fair to say that you have a very fabulous and versatile style, but what sparked your interest in sharing your style with the world through fashion blogging?

I did not start as a fashion blogger. I used to do random blog posts on various topics and inspirations, but never fashion. My first blog was a mix of everything that I was exposed to. Then I stumbled upon Lookbook.nu and discovered some awesome fashion blogs that I found pleasure in reading. From then on, my visits to fashion and street-style sites grew from once-in-a-while trips, to an every day affair. It's simply delightful to go through outfits put together by girls from around the world and how they incorporate every trend or style into a variety of outfits.

I noticed on a lot of your style posts that you always have an item from ASOS, one of my favorite online shops. Are you an ASOS fanatic? If so what do you adore about it so much?

Yes indeed! I am a really big ASOS fan. I think it was one of the first online store overseas that I had a shopping experience with. It's been over a year and I'm still a loyal customer. ASOS has a 'gi-normous' wardrobe that can be accessed from over the world. They have EVERYTHING. Well, not literally everything but you can get a lot of good quality products from there and you can be sure to be satisfied with their products and their customer service. They also retail a huge number of brands and their website design is done in a top class manner. I should have more to say about ASOS because I'm such a fan, but there is little to explain. They are, in simple words, an amazingly awesome online store. Period.

Why do you prefer bags and shoes over clothing?

It's not that I prefer bags and shoes over clothing, but that I'd rather spend big money in buying good shoes and bags, because they somehow define the entire outfit. A pair of shoes can give a whole lot of character to a simple dress and the same applies to the bags we girls carry. It's a little like this; we don't mind getting ourselves a nice vintage dress, but I'm pretty sure you would like a new pair of shoes instead of second hand ones. Right? So basically, I am more careful when it comes to buying shoes and bags than buying clothes.

How did it feel to be the giveaway winner for my originally designed and handmade leggings? How would you style them?

I obviously felt really lucky, getting picked as the winner of your giveaway. It always feels great to win. Anyway I think you're really good at this. The design is really chic and the sewing work is flawless. They're pretty warm for the hot Delhi summer, so I would probably wear it when the winter sets in, but for now, I've styled it with a thrifted, sheer, ruffled top and a pair of black pumps. I've kept it very simple but I am quite happy with it. I wanted to come up with a loud, in-you-face outfit but it didn't quite suit me. Anyway, thanks again for going hosting this giveaway.

UK Retail Therapy: Motel Rocks and ASOS

So around January I went online searching for some fierce dresses to add to my wardrobe, mainly for nightlife purposes. One of my good friends told me about a great site Motel Rocks and I immediately fell in love. The same day I ordered 2 dresses that were both on the clearance and were great steals. Being the shopaholic I am, I just could not stop myself and I needed to feed my desire by purchasing just one more dress. Horrible right? So what did I do? I headed over to ASOS and ordered a beautiful cut-out dress. I don't know what it is but I am attracted to the style and fashions of many European online stores. Among my group of favorites, ASOS and Motel Rocks are my top two stores with Top Shop reigning as number three. ASOS and Motel Rocks are the UK's finest display of fine British style offering beautiful prints, bold colors, and fast trendy fashions. If you have not taken a look at these online stores please do so now...like right now. Below are the three dresses that I purchased...also look out for two DIY's in two of my looks.

Below I styled each of my dresses and transformed them into great night looks ranging from a simple bohemian look to a bold confident look. All inspirations were taken from the Spring 2011 runway...

Geometric prints have always been a favorite of mine. The added neon colors in the background of the dress really allows the dress to pop. I wanted to continue the geometric lines in this look, so I topped my dress with my favorite Zara blazer, which is perfecto.

The fringe bag is a DIY of mine. I bought the purse at a thrift store and exchanged the strap with a large link gold chain. Adding accessories always adds to any look. Add a solid colored hat or stylish hand bag to your look this spring.

Combine several necklaces of different lengths and complementary colors to give your neck more flare. Bright neon colors like the orange clutch and lime earrings are the highlights of the runway for Spring 2011; especially cobalt blue.

Who is Lo?
Lo is a cat-cat girl from India who loves Indie music, Vincent Van Gogh, anything Vintage and lets her imagination run loose all the time! Her real name Lobeni Lesly Lotha and has no connection whatsoever with Cee-Lo! :O She is 22 and would one day like to travel all over the world but she would choose to go to Norway first and meet her beloved author, Jostein Gaarder.

Do you remember how you become inspired by fashion and what about fashion made you decide to become a "fashion blogger"?
Unlike many, I was least interested in fashion! I despised shopping and anything connected with clothes and shoes. My mom and sisters use to buy them for me and I would be okay with anything. It was later after I got over my tomboy phase -lasting a LIFETIME!- that I decided a change was indeed required. Soon after, I went from south pole to north pole and that was it: fashion, put it all on me indeed! My blog began as part of my portfolio to apply to fashion institutes. But yet again, times a changed and so have I. I still love fashion but I have chosen not to pursue it further. So now the blog is an extension of my very mundane, cat-out-of-the-hat days.

Living in India, how has the culture and available fashion inspired you? Do you look to innovators of fashion around you or do you branch out to other countries fashions for inspiration?
Although I love and study in New Delhi, I am actually from the North East region of India in a place called Nagaland where we were very exposed to everything western! Beginning from speaking mainly English, the music we listen to and the clothes we wore. Even our attitude is more laid back then the rest of the country. Everything is hells cools for us. Not like that's a wonderful thing actually, but yeah I don't mean to be arrogant and all but the people hailing from the North East (which consists of 7 states) have always been more fashion forward and a source of inspiration to the rest. But things have changed now and the whole country right now is in its first wave of fashion. I head over to lookbook for my inspirations. Mainly the girls from the Scandinavian countries. They are rocking!

Who are some of your favorite designers or retail brands?
My all time favourite designer is Christopher Bailey. Always was, always will be! :) Other than him, Amit Agarwal, Atsu and Varun Sardana (all from India), Alber Elbez, Luella Bartley and Stella McCartney.

Retail brands would be Mango, Forever 21, Forever New and Zara. (But I am more of a secondhand/thrift/vintage shopper).

What's the story behind your adorable blog name "Lazymanxcat"?
You know, you're the first person to ask me that! I'm so happy I can finally tell everyone! ^___^
I have had the cat-attack for quite a while. When I was thinking about names for the blog, I didn't want to give a stereotypical fashion-based name. I read somewhere that a blog should be an extension of who you are and the name itself in a representation of who you are. I am by far the laziest person I have come across!! :D
and cats. Cats epitomize everything that I am. The Manxcat is a native of the Isle of Man. What makes them so special is that they are virtually tale-less. Some find them creepy and ugly but I adore them. So, I am a fat lazy house cat and the most important thing? I am definitely tail-less! >^__^<

D.I.Y.-Finger Knitted Infinity Scarf

Inspiration for project: this season's popular knitted infinity scarf

This is the length of my scarf after using half the ball of yarn.

Triple wrap the scarf for a different look.

I'm back with an update on my Finger knitting project. Previously I introduced to everyone a simple technique that everyone could use to knit in my Closet Dilemma Update post. So I finished this scarf about a week ago and I wanted to share it with you. I originally knew that I wanted to create a very long scarf that I could sew together to create this season's popular infinity scarf. I didn't even use the whole roll of yarn because I have half the roll left over. This was a project I would do while watching tv or before I would go to bed. Very simple and creates a great result. I did not make my scarf as long as I could have, if I would have continued to use the entire roll of yarn, but i'm happy with the length that I made.

If you want to try this out simple go to my Closet Dilemma post and all the instructions and tutorials are included in the post. After learning the technique and knitting your scarf to the desired length, simply use the yarn to sew the ends of the scarf together or sew with a sewing machine. Keep in mind that it will take about a week and maybe less if you have a lot of free time. Happy DIY...and please send me any pics of your finished projects. I would love to see your creations!

P.S-I have some tips on how to add a creative look to your scarves: Use a multi-colored yarn (light colored yarn shows the details better), use textured yarn (ex.fuzzy), and use thick yarn (you will be able to see the rows in the scarf better).

All Good Things Must Come to an End: Last Day in London...

I'm so sad to say that this is my final travel post from my summer trip around Europe. You have had the chance to escape to London, England, Bath, England, Brussels, Belgium, and Paris, France with me through my photo diaries and I hope you were amazed. The experience not only allowed me to see some amazing historic landmarks, eat some great food, and go on an international shopping spree, but it allowed me to participate in a different perspective of fashion. Like I said in one of my earlier posts about shopping in London, functional and comfortable fashion is very important overseas. There is so much foot travel and there also is a great supply and demand for quality garments. Even when shopping in affordable stores like Warehouse and TopShop (in comparison to Harrod's and designer stores), there was an abundance of quality fabrics and construction. You want your products to be comfortable, look effortless, and be of excellent quality. From a design aspect I took in a lot from my first hand experiences with European fashion.

So on my last day of my trip me and some of the other students went to the London Eye to see the city from the best view in the city. Riding the London Eye was like being on a luxury ferris wheel that you actually feel safe in. I got to see the entire city of London, and the view was breathtaking. Some of these pics might be familiar to any Dior fans, since one of their recent ads was shot in the London Eye with Big Ben in the background. After the ride, we got a chance to see the city at night and went over to see the Tower Bridge also. My photos could not even mimic how beautiful London looks at night, especially Trafalgar square.

This was a great way to end a perfect month. I must admit I miss being transported around everywhere and not having to drive, the fresh fruit being sold on the sidewalk, the tasty deli sandwiches, the fabulous pizza joint off of Finchley Road, Nando's chicken (I became so addicted to this place...best chicken ever), the English accents, the exquisite architecture and historic landmarks, the art museums (I love how open Europeans are to exposing themselves to art), the dark green trees, the crowded streets, the famous Oxford street (amazing shopping I tell you), the escalators (I have never seen so many escalators in my life...they are everywhere), and most of all the vibrance and excitement of life that lingered in the air.

London you were a joy...I hate I only had you to myself for a month!

Teen Vogue's Best Dressed Reader of the Day

Yesterday I was featured as Teen Vogue's Best Dressed Reader of the Day. What an honor! I know they get thousands of submissions a day, and I was ecstatic that I got a chance to be featured. Thanks so much Teen Vogue!! Hopefully next time it will be a magazine feature.

I have also been featured on two amazing tumbler blogs earlier this month. I am not afraid to say that I stalk these pages for the inspirational content both blogger's post everyday. Black Fashion has featured me in my handmade asymmetric dress and in my outfit above. Also Sanaai Closet has featured me in my fur vest this month as well. Style Files: Equestrian Instincts

Textured leggings have become my obsession. I love the knee pads, seams, and mix of fabrics that designers have been adding onto leggings this season. I designed the leggings seen in the above pictures and I am very happy with the way they turned out. The gray patch of the leggings definitely add to the equestrian inspired look of this outfit. Instead of using brown as the basis of my color palette, I chose to use black for a more dark and bold look. Also, the ruffle detail and the style and chain detailing of the cropped jacket gives the look a modern feel.

I just want to take the time to wish all of my readers and visitors a great New Year's Eve and a Happy New Year! I am packing right now to head out of town to celebrate the New Year with friends. Pics coming soon... My New Year's resolutions so far:

Become a better blogger (more interaction and collaborations)
Read more (books; mags; whatever just read more...hehehe)
Limit my time to FB and Twitter to 30 mins. a day
Exercise (this includes walking to class)
Design and illustrate more (really dedicate time to my craft)

So far those are the most important aspects of my life that need improvement. I will leave you with my "motto" song for 2011 by the "fierce" Rihanna...ENJOY!

My Closet Dilemma: Update 1

A couple of weeks ago I posted a post about an issue I was having involving the diversity of my closet. The post, My Closet Dilemma, listed all the garments lacking in my closet and some ideas I had for personal designs that I would design and make for myself. I started on my designs and wanted to share what my ideas were so far. I did some quick 15 min. sketches of designs I had running around in my head that I wanted for myself. There are three designs so far, which may stay and/or go. I am going to start on Design 3 today, and the fabrics that I am using can be seen underneath the design. Making clothing for myself is really big for me because I usually never have time to make things for myself. It's past time for me to make something that I will enjoy for myself and to use the three tubs of fabric I have collected over the years.


Design 1-Asymmetric shape dress (thinking of using a printed knit for the left side of the dress and using a heavy textured material on the right side with the asymmetric cut; suede was the initial material that I thought of when designing this dress; the dress is casual but using the right material and colors the dress can be dressy)

Design 2-Cowl neck jacket, bustier, and bow front pants(the jacket is open with no front closure, has a cowl neck that buttons closed on the side with the tail of the neck hanging over the back of the shoulder, a tuxedo style back, and rolled 3 quarter sleeves; I am thinking of redesigning the sleeves and making the jacket into a cape with the buttoned cowl neck; the pants are fitted straight leg pants with a bow design in the front; working on what I want to do with the design at the hem of the pants)

Design 3-Lace button down blouse and satin pants (classic button down blouse with long tip collar; pockets covering breast, cuffs, and collar will all be a solid black material; loose fitted and low crotch satin pants with tie belt)

I also started on my sweater, trying out this technique that I found online. I haven't learned how to knit yet, but I am enrolled in a course the upcoming semester so I can learn. After browsing online for knitting tutorials, I came across a tutorial about finger knitting. The tutorial was so simple and the results look very similar to what knitting would look like. After researching the subject more, I found a tutorial on how to do the finger knit using a comb. So I gave it a try and this is what I came out with.

(TIP: the combs that i am using in these projects came from a local Dollar Store for $1. If you have similar combs at home use them.)

So I took the project to another level and used two combs so the width of the strip of the knitted yarn would be wider than the knitted strip above. The width of the 2comb knit equals out to be the width of one comb. Basically, whatever width you want your strip to be you have to knit on something twice that length. I'm going to continue knitting this and make a scarf out of it and a turban.

Since I have practiced knitting on the projects I have above, I am going to go ahead and start on my sweater. I am using two different textured yarns. One is plain wool yarn and the other has a fuzzy texture to the surface of the yarn. I will be posting again telling you exactly how I will do this. I'm so excited about this, I just couldn't wait until I learned how to officially knit in my class to start on my sweater. I want this sweater now! D.I.Y.- Fur Sleeve Turtleneck

So what do you do when you have scraps of fur sitting around your apartment and an old turtleneck that you don't wear anymore? You make a fur sleeve turtleneck of course....hehehehe! Earlier this week when I was cleaning my room, I came across a long-sleeve turtleneck from like two years ago that gets no action these days. I came up with the idea to "jazz up" the old turtleneck by adding fur to the sleeves. I have seen turtlenecks on the runway for the fall season and there is no surprise why I chose to use fur. Fur is everywhere this season!!! Another alternative is to use feathered trim that is being used on the feathered skirts that are very popular now. BTW you don't have to go out and spend a bundle on this project. The strip of fur that I used is material that I had in my fabric scraps collection that was used for a fashion collection project from like a year ago. Go to your local fabric store and find the desired fur fabric that you like and get them to cut 1/4 of a yard (that was the shortest length that the fabric store would allow to be cut when I purchased that fur). It should not be expensive at all...trust me!

All I did was cut a strip of fur 2 inches longer that the length of the sleeve, pinned it down with 1 inch of material hanging over the top and end of the sleeve, and then hand sewed it down. Then cut the extra material from the end and top (make sure to cut as close to the shape of the curved shoulder as possible). TahDah...you have a great fur sleeve turtleneck! Romance in England: Bath, England

Look at all the fresh flowers that were all over the town.

There were lions all over the town of Bath painted in different themes and colors. This was my favorite lion that I got a chance to see. I think it's my favorite because it reminds me of a Jamaican theme.

I got a chance to see what it was like to wear the undergarments of the 1800's. I have on a very tight corset and a petticoat. This was done at the Fashion Museum in Bath.

This town was so romantic and beautiful. Within ten minutes of being there I declared Bath, England to be a place to visit for an anniversary or even honey moon. The people are so nice and it's a slow paced town. The scenery itself is breathtaking, with flowers everywhere. I loved it! I don't think I could live there, but I could visit for sure. While in Bath I visited the historical Roman spas and I visited the Fashion Museum. I got a chance to touch and examine some historical designer clothing at the Fashion Museum. I saw a late Dior suit and many other designer pieces. I would encourage anyone who visits the UK to stop by Bath.

Style Files: It's A Man's World...Stripes and Denim

For this style file I wanted to play with denim on denim like you would coordinate black on black garments. My initial choice to go along with my striped blazer was a black pant and a black ruffle detail button down. I wanted to step outside of what I would normally do and go for the denim on denim. The demin also contributes to the masculine character of the outfit (fabric, low crotch, blazer). Tying the shirt was only to expose some skin and add a pinch of sexiness to the outfit. I purchased all of these items, except the denim shirt, in Brussels, Belguim this summer. THEY ALL WERE ON SALE...NONE OF THESE PIECES COST OVER $50 USD. I brought some great pieces back!

P.S. The denim shirt came from Wal-Mart for like $7. Every now and then the Max Azria collection for Wal-Mart will have a piece or two that catches my eye on the way to check-out. I'm not a fan of Wal-Mart apparel, but at least it's Max Azria. Let me know if you thought the denim shirt came from Wally World.

From My Sketchbook: Foreign Espionage

A/W 2010 collection designed back in 2009. The collection has a huge James Bond influence mixed with the emerging masculine garment influences that were taking off in 2008 and 2009.

Here are two pieces from the ten piece collection. From what I have seen on the runway this season, I can say I was definitely on the right path. Illustrations are done in pastel chalk and colored pencil.

I was cleaning up today and ran across my final collection that I completed in Fashion Illustration at SCAD back in the beginning of 2009. I began to compare my collection to what was taking place on the runways this season, since the collection was designed for A/W 2010. To my surprise, I was happy to discover that even as a student I was able to design a collection that reflected the following year's trends. This particular collection was inspired by a James Bond movie I think I watched during Christmas break before I returned to school. I just remember when I received the assignment wanting to do a very classic, strong, and masculine inspired collection. I think everyone has pretended to be a secret agent back in the day; I know I did. I have always been fascinated by those movies, especially the James Bond films. I just think it's so cool to be able to pretend to be someone else while piecing together clues to solve a dangerous mission. So in reference to that lifestyle I designed a ten piece collection. All of my pieces have very structured silhouettes with lots of detailing in the seams, added top-stitching, and lots of coordinating notions. The pieces have a strong sportswear focus with lots of masculine influences mixed into the design. I wanted my muse to be very strong, confident, but sexy as well. Exposing the leg, chest, and the fit of the clothing (used in other pieces not shown) helped to incorporate a sexy quality in the collection. I had so much fun with my illustrations and the "stop in your tracks" poses. Sorry for not showing the full collection, I just don't want my whole portfolio on the internet before I get to use it to get a job. Let me know what you think....

Castles, Costumes and Carnaby: London

V&A Museum in London: Grace Kelly & Fashion Exhibition

I promised a sneak peak at what I got to see at the Victoria and Albert Museum while I was living in London this summer. There was a great exhibition going on displaying a collection of Grace Kelly's iconic costumes from her movies and several pieces from her wardrobe. The detailing was impeccable and I actually bought some souvenirs out of the Grace Kelly exhibit to bring back to special family members. The museum itself was a breath of fresh air compared to all the 8am art history lectures I endured at SCAD. I highly advise visiting this museum instead of flipping through a book and testing on a masterpiece you have never seen. But that would make art colleges/universities MORE expensive. Any other art students agree with me?

Back to the topic at hand...enjoy my experience at V&A fashion exhibit.

For a number of years I saved this LV lock and key that came with a LV backpack a family member gave to me as a gift. Six years later, I finally found a use for it.

Trash to Treasures: Broaches & Feathers

I was going through my jewelry organizer and I found a bunch of random broken attachments and accessories that I had stored inside of it. So I decided if I was going to waist space with these objects I either needed to put them to use or get rid of them. So, the light bulb went off, and I decided to turn them into broaches. I also found some left over feather hair clips that I sold earlier this year during the annual art festival in my hometown. These will come in handy this season and will be great additions to complete my outfits this winter.

Both flowers are broken rings, the huge diamond is a broken Marc Jacobs ring I bought in the Savannah store when I was attending SCAD, and the white heart is an attachment to a set of bangles that never stayed on.

D.I.Y. these hair clips. Just get some hair clips and hot glue some feathers to the front in any arrangement you like.

The City of the Peeing Boy: Brussels, Belguim Photo Diary

This little guy was every where. I mean every where and on everything.

Mussels...had to try them once in my life. So why not in Brussels!

This was delicious. It had a caramel syrup that was dribbled all over the top of it that gave me goosebumps the first time I tasted it. The waffle on top was great too...there are Belgian waffles everywhere in Brussels.

"It's better to give than receive!" Well, that's what I was always told. I have received so much positive feedback from my readers as well as numerous features this year. So in honor of the Christmas holiday, I want to share a piece of my heart with one lucky reader.

I am giving away an originally designed dress that I made (shown in the picture above). Don't worry you get your own, because I made two. The dress is a beautiful coral pink, one shoulder, with a leg-of-mutton sleeve, and asymmetrical ruffle hem. Also the dress comes in a size Medium. I also want to note to anyone shorter than 5'11, the dress will be much longer on you than pictured on me. This would be a great garment to wear to your Christmas Day celebrations!

My Closet Dilemma

So, I have been sorting through my closet lately and I have noticed that there's something lacking. I need to add a number of exciting pieces to my winter wardrobe this year, which is full of old sweaters and long sleeve shirts. Since I live in a very conservative town in the middle of Mississippi, there are not many options of stores that I can go to and find these missing pieces. So that's when the light bulb went off! School is about to be out for the semester leaving me with a lot of free time before Christmas. Instead of buying the items I need I am going to design the pieces and make them for myself. I have not designed anything for myself in a long time (very long time). There's nothing like a new wardrobe; especially around Christmas. By the way, I will be posting pics of the garments I brought back from Europe shortly.

So here is what I need:

1. Knit sweater: I am in LOVE with the contrast in the widths of the knits in the Acne sweater (which I saw this summer at a boutique in Brussels). (Acne)

2. Pants: Not much to add here other than I really need a nice pair of pants. Color and shine are a must! (Gucci)

3. Textured Leggings: I got the idea to add pieces of a knit sweater to areas of the front of the leggings. I made some leggings with sections of micro-suede on the front that turned out great. (Burberry Prorsum/Pencey)

4. Lounge pants with asymmetrical crotch seam: The seam detail would really be the only flare in this design. I am thinking of adding some texture at the bottom. Maybe some suede, who knows! (Superfine/Chloe)

5. Long Skirt: The sheer long skirts have mesmerized me this season. I'm thinking a sheer skirt with a similar circular cut hem of the skirt shown. (Catherine Malandrino/ASOS)

6. Printed blazer: I just purchased a Zara blazer, while in Brussels, but it is more dressy. I am in need of a blazer that is versatile, can be worn with lots of colors, and that can compliment a casual and dressy look. Not in need of too many details, but I do want it be long and have a contrasting fabric lining the inside and inside the sleeve to be rolled up. (Rachel Roy)

7. Dress with cutout detail: Since last year I have been dying to have a cut-out dress. Every time I find one it just never looks great on me. (???/ASOS)

8. Long Dress: Deep split or asymmetrical cut hem will be perfect for a solid winter dress worn with knee high boots. (Micheal Kors)

Shopping in London

So let's get to the fun stuff....SHOPPING AND FASHION! I have to tell you that fashion in London took on an absolutely new interpretation for me than it does back home. At home I have my own personal vehicle and I have the opportunity to travel when I want, where I want. That also applies to circumstances where I am trotting around town in heels of any length. If I want to go to an event, I just drive there and stand around in my heels for a short amount of time and then go back home. In London, it was completely different. Being that I was on a study abroad trip, of course I didn't have my own personal transportation, and the bus and tube both were my transportation around London. The big difference that played out for me in London in terms of fashion was in the functionality of the garments I had. London is a buzzing city and for people who don't have their own vehicle planning your day is very critical; and that applies to your wardrobe in so many ways. It can take anywhere from 15 mins. to an hour to get to a desired location, traveling on tube and bus. So walking around in heels, uncomfortable clothing, not being dressed for the weather, or not being prepared for the day's events are all unacceptable. I found myself buying a huge tote in a cute boutique outside of the Tate Museum that I kept a cardigan in among other items such as a pair of flats, umbrella, and snacks. There is no running back home to change clothes or shoes when you're a 30 min. tube ride and 20 min. bus ride away from home. Living in a small town, where no one walks and there is no public transportation, there was never a need to be prepared for a full day's plans because I would just go back and forth to my house and get what I needed. Being in London opened my eyes to the importance of casual wear and just being comfortable. I never woke up to the urge to dress comfortable more consecutive mornings until I lived in London. After day two I came to the conclusion that one pair of black flats and a black cardigan would dominate over all the heels and clothing that I brought along with me. Enough about me. There was great street style in London from the women and men. I think I saw every type of legging that was available walking along Oxford street. The stores were like castles, with beautiful and creative visual merchandising displayed in all the store front windows. The inside was even better. From London with Love...

This summer I got a great opportunity to study abroad in London for a month. Since January of this year, I had been anticipating my adventures in London. I especially could not wait to see the European perspective of fashion and have the chance to experience the different brands and street styles of London's fashion elite. The entire month of July I got to live in London and become a part of the rich and fast paced culture, which I quickly accepted and loved. I have so many pictures to share so I will make this post a series that will show more pictures from my trip to London, as well as small trips to Bath, England, Brussels, Belgium, and Paris, France. I have so much to share with you about my trip and I hope you follow along with my posts.

Well let's begin with my first week in London.

Since I was in a study abroad program, that was apart of the CCSA study abroad program, we resided in local college housing. I stayed at King's College Hampstead campus dorms, which were quite nice and located in a beautiful neighborhood. From the numerous Lexus's, Audi's, BMW's, and an Aston Martin or Lamborghini here and there, I came to the conclusion that the Hampstead area was a very well off area of London. LOL! I'm a smart one I tell you!

The taxis are adorable. At night all you see are hundreds of these cars swerving around the roads taking people home or to the bars. Oh yeah, in London you drive on the passenger side of the car. From what I remember the traffic goes in the opposite direction as well, because we always had to look left before crossing the road.

This is the famous Millennium Bridge that was shot in one of the Harry Potter movies.

This is the Shakespeare Globe Theater that I visited after going to the Tate Museum.

I finally got my picture in the telephone booth. I have always wanted one of these pictures. This was shot right outside St. Paul's Cathedral.

I grew to love the tube. It took me a week to learn how to get myself around, but once I got the hang of it I was rushing around London like everyone else that lived there. I lived near the Jubilee station, which was pretty much packed all the time. I definitely had to learn to push my way on the tube which wasn't always fun, but it became apart of my "Tube Survival" strategy.

Style Files: A Floral Affair

Toile socks from my first DIY. Don't they look great?

I have to start with a little complaining for this style file. The day I took the pictures for this editorial, it was about 100 degrees and very humid outside; Mississippi weather for you. Through all the heat I was still able to pull through and get some great pictures. As you may know from my previous style file, I love mixing texture and volume. I initially wanted to do a punk look with the black sheer and satin zippered top, but i chose to take the outfit in a different direction. I added my new favorite a-line skirt with a great abstract floral print. With the addition of my YSL inspired heels, cream floral studs, and my toile socks, the outfit was complete. This shoot was so fun and full of laughs with my photographer, Caroline Walker, a classmate from my Photography Studio Lighting class.

I'm really enjoying the style files and I have a lot more in store. Stay tuned! All the clothing and shoes were from Forever 21 off the sale rack and the earrings are from Charlotte Russe. Style is visible to the eye no matter what it costs!

Style Files: A Hint of Navy

Finally, my first style file! I have a new attraction to navy this season. Even going through my closet, I have found several newly purchased pieces of mine to all be navy. So I'm sure you can guess what my first "style file" is going to be about. Mixing textures is also something I love to do; with the satin, cotton, and knit fabrics all together. Playing with volume is also a love of mine. The leg of mutton inspired sleeves are to die for. That's exactly why the cardigan I am wearing is one of my favorite pieces of my wardrobe right now. One of the great things about all of the pieces I have on is that they all can be coordinated with different items for a more dressy look or more of a casual look; like the look I have on.
The cardigan, shorts, and heels are all from Forever 21 OFF THE SALE RACK. Whoever said being a fashion diva was expensive, LIED.

I was browsing my favorite blogs this afternoon and saw my DIY Lace Sock tutorial featured on the marvelous OutsaPop fashion blog. When I say I am a fan of this blog, I mean I am a HUGE fan of the blog. The blog has great DIY inspirations, editorials, featured tutorials, and so much more. after marveling through the blog for about a year, among other great fashion blogs and online magazines, I finally started my own. So seeing my tutorial on the blog made me Pop with excitement. Thank you OutsaPop!

There are two things that I just adore. That would be lace and a heels! So when designers for spring 2010 flaunted the two together on the runway, I wanted my own pair immediately. I fell in love with Nina Ricci's Spring 2010 lace covered heels, that almost appear to be booties. I also was very inspired by Dolce and Gabanna's mesh covered heels. So what did I do? I made my own. Hello to the world!! As you can see I am a fashion blogger, blogging about how to live a designer lifestyle with college refund bucks...lol.

Let's start with a small introduction. My name is Amber Randell. I have been involved with art ever since my first art class in kindergarten. I have not only fallen in love with so many forms of art, from fashion to photography, it has become apart of me . With all the love that I have for art, fashion is by far the closest to my heart. I have been studying fashion design since high school and now I am making it my career path while studying in college. With this blog I hope to spread my perspective and love of fashion so every fashion attic can have a chance to get their hit.

As a college student, it is almost impossible for me to go to Nieman Marcus or Nordstrom and purchase the latest pair of BCBG heels, Donna Karan dress, or Chloe hobo purse, especially without a job and with a six class course load. But I do have all my previous experience in sewing, my creativity, and the infamous gift of the "discount store" or "sale rack".

So with "Throw It In The Bag Blog" I will take you on a journey of all the bargain items and products I find at random places that I "throw in my bag" to be used later for a relaxing day of DIY. On this blog is where I will share all of my nifty ideas and DIY tutorials on how to be an innovative trendsetter with a very frugal pocket.
